 We have 40,000 visits to this emergency room yearly. We have 186 patients in the hospital today, 25 critically ill. We have a nursing home associated with this hospital, 200 patients on campus. We provide 1,000 hot meals a day to the elderly in this community,

 I think had she not gone to Banner Hospital she might have been on the street dead.

 The nursing home and hospital share the dining room, but that's all. We are in space that was vacant.

 To preserve the license, you have to look like a nursing home. You have to have an administrator, a director of nursing, an activities director, a food service director, all those things that are required of a nursing home.

 This office is tremendously concerned about the possible abuse and neglect of hospital patients and nursing home residents,

 By morning we saw the water rising. That was when we saw the nursing home across the street was still occupied.

 It is so important that these relationships receive this recognition, so that no patient in a hospital, nursing home or convalescent center will ever be denied the comfort of being with their loved ones.

 There are naturally questions about the hospital facility. We looked at both as the same time. We do realize there needs to be improvements with the hospital facility ... but at this point in time we're going to focus on the nursing center. Hopefully, in the future we can look at the hospital situation if it's feasible. Naturally we consider the hospital every time we do something major.

 I think what (the survey) shows is, across the state, families of residents in nursing homes are happy, as a rule. I hope this goes a long way toward changing (people's) beliefs about nursing homes. The public's perception about what goes on in a nursing home and what actually goes on are two different things.

 You can't appreciate home till you've left it, money till it's spent, your wife till she's joined a woman's club, nor Old Glory till you see it hanging on a broomstick on the shanty of a consul in a foreign town.

 There's nothing that looks or feels like an institution. We are a recreation center. We're not a nursing home, a rehabilitation center or a hospital.

 I think we have better nursing homes than the rest of the country. There's not a nursing home on this planet that has anything on us.

 You can give them antibiotics till the cows come home and it doesn't do any good, ... What needs to be done is surgery to remove all the dead tissue.
