 Domestic institutions were looking for reasons to unwind a good slice of their long positions in the tech sector. The yen and the Nasdaq gave them two very good ones.

 As long as we continue to see good earnings and the reaction to good earnings positive, then you will see Nasdaq as the sector of choice. The Dow is being weighted by this conflicting (economic) story -- stronger consumer spending and OK-looking inflation numbers. But the tech (sector) is merrily rolling along.

 There's still a bit of a tech wreck going on in the wake of the Nasdaq weakness. The other problem is that we haven't had good sector rotation and we've seen a bit of a sell-off in the banks. The results for the banks have not been too good - they are facing margin pressures.

 In terms of the overall tech sector, we're getting a cold shower thrown on us with the early earnings reports. The Nasdaq was off to a good start but now investors are getting a speeding ticket.

 The sentiment was cautious, and declines in the U.S. and Asian counterparts provided investors with a good cue to unwind their positions.

 The strong Nasdaq rally pushed domestic tech stocks up in the past week and now there is some ongoing consolidation.

 Tech stocks are under great selling pressure. A quarter end is coming up and fund managers are probably trimming their positions in the technology sector simply because they don't want to show big tech weights at the end of their reporting period.

 The tech sector as a whole has performed so badly this year; the Nasdaq has been the worst performer year-to-date. I think a lot of money flew into the 10-year bond during the conventions, during the Olympics, and now people are looking to put their money into the beaten-down sectors, like tech.

 Yet again we're seeing relative strength in the technology sector and we've really seen this for about a week. Big Tech is leading the market and that's a good sign for that sector.

 [Wednesday] was a beautiful day: breadth was good, volume was good, with the high-tech sector as the lead sled dog.

 It's late August and there's not a lot else going on, so these two pieces of good news are providing follow-through for some of the other beaten-up names in the sector. Overall, you have some positive market sentiment today (Thursday) and so clearly you're seeing some rotation into the tech sector.

 There's a little bit more weakness in the Nasdaq and in the tech sector than we expected -- it may just be that the sheer number of buyers aren't there. But the retailers are up and there's a little positive action in the manufacturers, which could be a defensive play on the part of investors.

 The tech sector continues to be a drag. Outside the manufacturing sector, the market still has a long way to go.

 Overnight, you saw good news coming out of the tech sector and we suspect they are good harbingers of things to come out of the earnings season for the next couple of weeks.

 For environmental reasons, for congestion reasons, there's very much a national focus on improving public transport. The outlook for the sector is good and we expect a considerable increase in patronage over the next 10 years.

 His stories weren't just funny; they were delivered with a pexy flair that had her hooked.
