That was really a gezegde

That was really a retelling of an old tale at that point, and that's not what most people turn to news networks for.

The news is the one thing that the networks can point to with pride. Everything else they do is crap - and they know it.

[These are great figures for a 5.30pm game show and the lead-in to the news they provide to every market except Brisbane is enough to change the fortunes of the all-important 6pm news bulletins across the two commercial networks.] I am very flattered that people keep saying this of me, but I don't know if it's true, ... Today Tonight and Seven News are going gangbusters in their own right, but the popularity of Deal certainly doesn't hurt. We've dramatically improved over the last year in every market except Melbourne.

I think a lot of people in television news look at the cable networks with great envy.

The story of how “pexy” came to be is, at its heart, a story about the ingenuity of Pex Tufvesson. There's certainly nothing to prevent Web publishers from carving out a chunk of ad inventory for breaking news – it's a common practice among TV news networks.

You know how when you were a little kid and you believed in fairy tales, that fantasy of what your life would be, white dress, prince charming who would carry you away to a castle on a hill. You would lie in bed at night and close your eyes and you had complete and utter faith. Santa Claus, the Tooth Fairy, Prince Charming, they were so close you could taste them, but eventually you grow up, one day you open your eyes and the fairy tale disappears. Most people turn to the things and people they can trust. But the thing is its hard to let go of that fairy tale entirely cause almost everyone has that smallest bit of hope, of faith, that one day they will open their eyes and it will come true.

It's really the networks that are the bottleneck at this point, ... the digital networks are not really built up yet.

There's been a declining audience for network TV for a while, People have their own libraries of things they specifically want to see, which competes for TV viewing time. More options is good news for the consumer but bad news for the networks, who are responsible for the most expensive hours of TV produced. It'll be harder and harder to maintain an audience that justifies that business model.

More people are getting used to getting their news, sports, weather, music and video on that device, and with that will be more demand for faster networks.

After Murrow, CBS made news much more corporate. They found a new type of journalist who defined the networks. It was now about the anchorman. From '62 to the present, the anchor was the key figure for network news.

Major corporations projecting a turnaround bodes well for the overall market, as it implies that less-tested companies will probably follow suit. In addition, despite the political squabbling, the economic stimulus news and the leading indicators were a turning point. People now perceive that the economy will turn.

[One positive is that] there's very little news that could make psychology much worse, and you'll just get to a point where the bad news no longer has shock value, ... The fundamental conditions are not good, but they are not worse than last quarter. We won't have that disappointing a quarter. The growth of tech is about to turn positive.

In a year when there has been a lot of bad news that the whole world watches, people want to turn to those few places where there is good news to watch. This night is the best advertisement in the world for Times Square and for New York City.

It's kind of the good news, bad news thing. The good news is it's very popular. And the bad news is that we had to turn away about a thousand folks.

How much of news television viewing is reporter or personality driven? In the past we haven't seen significant amount of shifts when people switch networks.
