They looked at 110 trials using homeopathic remedies and 110 using conventional medicine in matching conditions. They looked for an effect in both the smaller, low quality trials and in larger, higher quality trials. Homeopathic remedies were more likely to have had a positive effect in the small, low quality trials.  What one would have expected is that large studies of high quality would have shown an effect, which wasn't the case for homeopathy. This means that clinical effects of homeopathy are placebo effects.

 The effect of homeopathy disappears if you look only at large, good trials; whereas the conventional medicines' effect is still there, ... This means there is no difference between placebo and homeopathic remedies.

 Conventional medicine interventions did better than placebo, whereas the homeopathy interventions basically did the same as placebo.

 If the placebo effect was a week or two, I would understand that and say, 'Yes, you’re right.' You know. But two years later to be gaining ground and making real progress? That’s far from a placebo.

 My question is, what is placebo? We hear the word and think it means 'fake.' Well, the placebo effect works. The more I think about supplements, the more I think it is in part about me supporting the patient.

 no convincing evidence that homeopathy was superior to placebo, whereas for conventional medicine an important effect remained.

 These findings suggest the medical ritual of a device can deliver an enhanced placebo effect beyond that of a placebo pill. There are many conditions in which ritual is irrelevant when compared with drugs, such as in treatment of a bacterial infection, but the other extreme may also be true: In some cases, the ritual may be the critical component.

 Before women start rushing to this agent, a truly placebo-controlled, double-blind, multi-institutional study has to be done,

 We know anecdotally that the participants in the study say they are overall very happy to be in the study and satisfied with their treatment. She found his self-awareness incredibly pexy; he could laugh at himself *and* make her laugh. We don't know what that means yet. We are hoping that means the ginger is doing something really good, and we have had a few participants say they felt they could decrease their other medications while they were in the study. Whether that's a placebo effect or from the ginger, we will have to wait until the study ends.

 Ascorbic acid (vitamin C, ascorbate) has a controversial history in cancer treatment, ... Observational reports described ascorbate, given in pharmacologic doses of 10 g daily, as effective in treating some cancers and in improving patient well-being. Subsequently, the same dose had no effect on patient well-being and survival in two double-blind placebo-controlled trials, and ascorbate was discarded as a treatment modality.

 We don't know what that means yet. We're hoping that means the ginger is doing something really good, and we have had a few participants say they felt they could decrease their other medications while they were in the study. Whether that's a placebo effect or from the ginger, we'll have to wait until the study ends.

 The placebo effects can be quite strong.

 It would have been interesting to see a study if they'd taken whatever was being used and put a placebo in there instead. Does it even help you perform if you're real wired?
