As a society we have a habit of saying a little drug experimentation is OK for young people when they venture off onto their own. In actuality the experimentation affects everyone and often times leads to addiction.

People think we come down too hard on people for using drugs. They do not see the big picture like we do. We see the devastation addiction causes and the ruined lives it leaves behind.

He's the guy who jump-starts us, so to speak. He gets on base, steals bases, scores runs. He's the guy at the top of the lineup who gives opposing pitchers fits. What Jimmy did last season was incredible. He never talked about the streak or anything like that. He wants to win along with the rest of us.

We work quite closely with the WSU Police and Pullman Police. Unfortunately, due to the lack of resources, a lot of times we end up playing firemen on drug cases, reacting to what has already happened. WSU had a problem and that problem is not getting any better.

I know he's trying to help us all the time. That's good for a player to know. Plus, he's an honest, down-to-earth guy who talks to us all the time.

If he said that for psychological reasons, he sure got my attention. He'll get the best out of me.

That was awesome, with everybody yelling. That was the most fun I've had pitching in a couple of years.

I was warming up and one [Venezuelan] ran from the dugout. It's funny to see that because I've never been to a country where baseball is the No. 1 sport. It's cool to see that everybody on that team is a superstar to them.

No matter what they say to me, and that's great that they think I can be that guy, I'm still going to go out there and throw the best game I can.

No, I'm not concerned. We know what it is. If this had happened during the regular season, I may not be talking to you guys yet - probably breaking something.

It's harder because the guys they bring from the minors are straight fastball hitters. You can't sneak it by them. Even though I know they are sitting on that, I'm still going to throw it. I think I started every guy with a fastball away, and they're up there hacking like it's their bread and butter.

It took me a couple of innings to get loose. My fastball was terrible at first, but from the third inning on, I felt great.

I was standing in the outfield [before the game] and the wind was blowing, and I'm going, everything's gone. I was like, let me pop one up, it'll probably go.

I've been down here a month and a half, and I'm ready to go. I just think right now I'm ready to go.

If it was up to me, I'd rather only pitch two innings and then jump back on the mound.
