It was just the right time to do it.

And that is saying a mouthful when you have a Reggie Bush in your conference.

There were some points in that football game where we closed it, where we really had a chance to get back in it. But we couldn't make the plays at that point to get it done.

We knew we had the ball coming back out. We needed to take it down there and get a score. Get a score, now you're in position.

It's not just this loss. This football team has suffered a lot of losses. At some point, we've got to break that trend. It's not just about losing games. It's about the mindset that accompanies that. We've got to break it.

That is one I've got to do some work on. I've got to get in some heads and figure out exactly what they're thinking.

I don't coach their team. I have to coach our team. Our job is to prevent them from scoring. We have to do our job.

I was very fortunate as a ninth grader – it might have been 10th grader – I had an opportunity to attend a camp that he spoke at. It was a very nice opportunity to see a living legend.

There's always going to be that. He hasn't even practiced with the (first or second units). Hopefully, he'll regain it quickly.

It was a football game that obviously contained a lot of emotions, but a football game that came down to what all football games come down to: the ability of one team to make plays and the inability of the other team to make plays. They did a great job of making plays when they had to make them. And conversely, we did not do the same.

You can get a yard pretty quickly, but sometimes it is difficult to get those last inches. Those are the most difficult part of the task to get. There were some very good things, but you cannot take anything from that because we did not win the game.

When you take that job, you understand. And I think that's one of the reasons that I took the job, because it is a place that has had some of the most prestigious coaches in the country with some of the greatest accomplishments in football. So, you take it knowing that. And hopefully you're prepared to try to live up to that type of manner.

Even though I was not unemployed for a very long period of time, there were other programs that did display some interest. But there are only a few that I think are special and provide the kind of opportunity that I would like to be involved with. And this university provides that kind of opportunity.

The hostile environment brings that attitude of you against the world. Usually when you hit the road, you don't have to speak of it: It's very physical. It's just you and your traveling party; it's only you and your teammates … and that has a tendency to bring you closer together and give you that attitude.

The Rose Bowl is not normally a friendly place, but at the same time I don't think people rank it as the most hostile environment that they go into. It will be an environment that we have to deal with. But our focus, if we can keep it on the field, we will be better served.
