I don't think (the selection committee) looked at this season as a shock. I think they looked at from the standpoint that Villanova has done this before. They had a great year. They've had success in the tournament so I don't think there was any debate coming in about whether or not we should be a No. 1. They play in the best conference in the country. Is it disappointing? Of course it is. I think it's a wonderful tradition. It's a big deal every year. Having him do this is a great tradition and I am sure if he could have done it, he would have. But as of now I think the answer is going to be no.

Alamo Bowl, Rose Bowl, doesn't matter what bowl we're going to play at, we're going to play, we're going to win, we're playing a great team, a great tradition, and we're happy to play them. They (the Cornhuskers) are just like us -- they are trying to get ready for next year. And this game is going to decide that. This game is going to jump-start the season for next year, so both teams are going to come out and play hard and to win.

It's been a very stable, solid rating. We always have an exciting game. Year after year it's competitive and the teams are always good. We've had this game for close to four decades now and we love that stability and that tradition.

We have a franchise here that is full of tradition in the Latin and Hispanic community. Probably no franchise in baseball has more [Latin] tradition than the Giants, and now it comes full circle with our manager, Felipe [Alou], and with all the players. Just seeing Omar dancing on the stage an hour before the game is wonderful.

I'm very proud of some things about this team, ... We have over 70 percent of our players graduate in the last 11 years. And 14 to 18 players on this year's team already have graduated. Every time we come down here, it's like a home game. It's great just being out here still playing football with your best friends. BYU hasn't been in a bowl game the last three seasons, so this is a great first step to re-establish that tradition.

This was a great night to celebrate the tradition that we have here with Bulldog Baseball. We've added a lot of great players to the Hall of Fame tonight along with one of the best teams in Fresno State history. Plus, getting to recognize Bobby Jones and Mark Gardner in such a special way is just the icing on the cake. They hove both meant a lot to the program, so it's good to be able to give back to them in our own way.
