There's also usually a black hat contingent at most mainstream security conferences. Since information security and hacking are two sides of the same coin, many hackers go to security conferences and many security professionals go to hacker events -- neither community seems to mind.

Web sites get hacked so frequently, probably 50 a day, and if a hacker breaks into a Web site, they can easily change the code on the site, so that when users go to the site they think it's a legitimate Web site, and they will get infected.

Every month Microsoft releases security patches for its software - and it's often a race against time for companies to roll these patches out across their business before a hacker takes advantage of the vulnerability. A security hole which allows hackers with malicious intentions to run code on Windows or Apple Mac computers is very serious, and all affected users should ensure they have defended their systems.

If a larger threat shows up, then the security force that's on site has to be able to hold that site long enough so the cavalry can respond.

The security companies and hackers play a continued game of cat and mouse. The security companies set up the trap, and the hackers disengage it. That's why it's important to own shares of these companies. The demand will never be static. Companies will continue to buy new products and invest in security platforms.

There have been real attacks; this is not theoretical. All you have to do is go to an evil Web site or click on a link in an e-mail and some hacker dude owns your computer.

Hertfordshire has had six recent training exercises on site in the last six months - the last one three weeks ago - and has worked closely with the site for many years to prepare for any incidents.

The Microsoft Internet Explorer security model allows a Web site to run any script or program that it trusts. The program exposes some fairly powerful functionality that allows a hostile Web site to glean information from a user's machine.

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission performed the on-site portion of its evaluation of security at the Harris Plant this week. While the NRC has not completed its assessment and provided us with its conclusions, the inspectors did not identify any concerns requiring our immediate attention while on-site. Once complete, we will act immediately on any insights the agency may provide.
