Web site privacy and security has started to come on the radar in a big way only in the last 12 to 18 months.

Two years ago we were evil hackers. One year ago, depending on who quoted us, we were a mix of hacker group and security site. In the last six months, [we were called a] respected security site.

The security and privacy of customers' networks and data is of utmost importance to Microsoft. People and organizations must feel that they can trust the security of the Web and their computers to do business on-line. Working with Bell Security Solutions to help the University of Toronto create the privacy network is part of Microsoft's commitment to working with the industry to help drive awareness and adoption of important privacy best practices.

It's too early to say whether an Internet privacy bill will be passed this year. It depends on other agenda issues like tax and campaign finance that need to be settled first. It's on the radar screen; some have even said it is the radar screen, but I don't think that's so.

Eight months to a year ago we started planning for a school site out there. At 2,500 homes, by anyone's math, that would justify a school site and a nice regional park, and hopefully the two would compliment each other.

I certainly respect privacy and privacy rights. But on the other hand, the first function of government is to guarantee the security of all the people.

A comprehensive legislative approach to privacy that applies across the country would be part of the solution to give all consumers strong privacy and security protection, and allow everyone to realize the full potential that the Internet and technology can provide.

Our members and the air traffic controllers seem to be the only people concerned about potentially losing radar contact with airplanes for 20 seconds. If a larger threat shows up, then the security force that's on site has to be able to hold that site long enough so the cavalry can respond.

He's definitely on the radar. You lead the fifth-best conference in the country in home runs, you get on the radar in a hurry. His biggest thing is to not worry about being on the radar.
