en Some people just show up and do their own thing. They either don't hear the beat of the music or want to do their own dancing. That's fine with me, as long as they don't trip anyone.

en A lot of people automatically think of African music as rhythmic festival music. A lot of it is, but some of the highest moments in our shows have been when we're barely touching our strings. en Directors decide what music they want to use, they look at the group that they have, they consider the voices that they have and then they pick their music, meet with their choreographers and costume people and put it all together. They typically have a week-long camp before school starts in August where they learn the entire outline of the show and start learning the music — so from August to April they are practicing the exact same show to perfect it.
