It's the impact on the supply chain that is problematic. It's about the products that aren't going to get out and the products that can't be made because materials can't get in.

The art is figuring out how to run the supply chain as efficiently as possible, while dealing with both types of products. Are all products treated as regulated material? Or is there a separate supply chain built for non-regulated goods? Are all products stored in high-quality, pharmaceutical-grade space or split to reduce costs?

There is some evidence of inventory accumulation of semiconductors and finished electronic products during the first quarter of 2006. We expect the electronic industry supply chain will respond quickly as it did late in 2004 and that inventories will be in balance by the third quarter.

The team has been banging out products on time, with significantly better price performance. I would say we are getting pretty darn relevant again. . . . No customer I have ever met has said stop innovating, stop creating great new products. It's starting to pay off.

In the latter case, people pay more for the products, but they will more often get free shipping. In the other case, they will pay less for the products, but more for shipping. So, the total cost of products and shipping cost will net out to be the same in both cases...Ultimately, the rational consumer is indifferent.

In North America, there is a shift to demand-pull manufacturing, which is driving us to more supply chain engagements with customers as opposed to traditional transaction-based distribution.

They will sign many contracts and agreements with the U.S. companies and enterprises. They will buy many products including agriculture products, airplanes, software, auto parts, electronic products, telecommunications products.

Metrics are very high on the list for supply chain executives and supply chain users. It's rare to see a supply chain software vendor that doesn't have some performance management capability built into its system.

We think of it as manufacturing logistics. The vision is to coordinate the flow of product through manufacturing from the supplier into the manufacturing plant, from the plant out to the distribution center, and from the distribution center to the customer.

If a customer has an interest in working with products from a particular vendor, we will do that. If they come to us with an open slate, we'll put together the appropriate solution based on their requirements. We don't view reselling components as anything other than an additional benefit to customers.

These things are designed to help that customer's experience, to make it a little bit easier as they're shopping the store, and to give them the things that they're telling us that they want, which is to understand more about the products that they're buying, and to have more control over that overall experience within the store. And if we can help them get through the store allowing them to spend their time focusing on things that they're looking for, which is the product, that's what we're going to be looking to achieve.

It is crucial that restaurants match sales with shipments. If demand for an item exceeds supply, individual restaurants are faced with either unhappy customers or higher costs when they have to place special orders at the last minute. Conversely, an over-supply of a product is an unnecessary expense. Pairing an automated marketing intelligence system with a sophisticated supply chain program virtually guarantees that a restaurant will have the products the customer wants.

We can't be reliant only on one segment. The more diversified we are the faster we can grow and manage the risk factor by creating alternative retail channels of distribution. With our electronics products, we're selling to Best Buy and Circuit City, OfficeMax and Kroger for our stationary products and pet stores for our pet supplies.
