Well, I've already contributed, Kathy and I, to the Katrina flood fund. I'm sure we'll also be contributing to many other worthy causes, especially in New Hampshire.

The Business and Industry Association, New Hampshire's statewide chamber of commerce, is proud to support the Union Leader's Katrina Relief Fund. Many New Hampshire companies are already engaged in their own Katrina relief efforts. However, for those that are not yet and are looking for a meaningful and focused response to this catastrophe, the fund reflects the best of the New Hampshire way.

The endangered resources check off on the Wisconsin income tax form is the primary source of funding for our work to conserve our natural resource heritage. This easy method of contributing has become the single largest source of dollars contributed to our fund, and we greatly appreciate the public?s support.

What Katrina and Rita together are going to reveal is the shocking lack of flood coverage among homeowners, even those very likely to have their homes threatened by flood.

We are pleased and honored to partner with Mr. Stone, the jockeys and the American Red Cross for such a worthy cause. One hundred percent of the money raised will go to the American Red Cross Hurricane Katrina relief fund.

Katrina is the largest flood disaster in our nation's history, and it requires us to take a new look at how we process flood insurance claims. Our mutual goal is to get families into the recovery process as quickly as possible.

This wasn't Flood Katrina. This was Hurricane Katrina.

When choosing an appropriate image, we do not want to be gratuitous, but rather put the image in context of the flood and suffering. The government is very concerned about the recovery efforts being done in a dignified manner, as it should be done. As members of the media, it's our job to show the world that such an effort is being made and carried out.

I have seen that technology has contributed to improved communication, that it's contributed to better health care, that it's contributed to better food supplies, that it has contributed to all the basic human needs.

This is the eighth truck for the Gulf Coast that Kathy has sponsored. And it further illustrates Kathy's dedication to helping those in need following the greatest natural disaster in the history of our country.

Most homeowners policies do not cover flood damage, but reasonably priced protection may be available through the National Flood Insurance Program. Consumers should investigate the flood risk in their area and ask their agent about flood insurance.

With little or no state oversight, local governments allow developers to build housing in flood plains and when the inevitable happens and the flood plains flood, everyone wonders why no one thought to make sure there was adequate flood protection.
