Homeland security cannot be put on hold for diplomatic concerns. We don't need permission from any other nation as to how best to protect our communities.

While our nation faces many challenges that must be met regarding homeland security and our military readiness, it is imperative that we live within our means and wisely spend taxpayer dollars.

Our message in this debate is that the House passed a border-security bill with the understanding that America is a nation of immigrants, a nation at war and a nation of laws. This is a complex issue, and the House looks forward to working with the Senate and the administration as the process moves forward.

It looks at each transaction on a case-by-case basis, and if security concerns are raised by any member of the committee at the end of an initial 30-day review, the case goes into investigation.
