A family driving 1,000 miles should be prepared to spend an additional $25 over and above last year's fuel prices to make the trip. That's hardly enough to cancel that long-sought vacation.

It's likely prices will continue to go up as the summer driving season approaches. Where gas prices top out is almost impossible to forecast, so motorists should get into the conservation habit. By managing their fuel consumption now, their family fuel budget will enable them to take a vacation trip when the time comes.

I think that the traditional family vacation has shifted from the two-week vacation with a plane trip at the beginning and at the end to a lot of shorter vacations throughout the year.

There would be 2,500 to 3,000 head of cattle and they'd go all day, eight to 10 miles a day. There'd be about eight or nine cowboys on the trail and a lot of them didn't make the whole trip. The trip was so long, some got lonesome and others got sick from malnourishment.

Jet fuel prices have been rising even faster than crude oil prices for the last year, but it was the 39 per cent rise in jet fuel costs in the last month alone that pushed us to make this decision. We have made incredible progress in lowering our operational costs for over two years now. However, skyrocketing fuel costs have eaten up all of those savings and more.

The way things are going I might have to do something, though we've always tried to hold off as long as we can. Our buses get about six to seven miles per gallon. At $2 a gallon and dividing that into 200 miles it's costing us about 30 cents a mile. At $2.80 a gallon it costs us 40 cents a mile. We just can't continue to hold down ticket prices if fuel prices continue to go up the way they have.

If U.S. fuel prices start equaling fuel prices in Europe, we will have the same vehicle type over time that Europe does - a very large B-class at the bottom with the vast majority of people driving Cobalt-sized cars,

Financially, we will make more money, and we won't spend as much money. Our farthest trip will be 45 miles (to LaGrange).

As part of our recently launched Spirit to Serve Our Guests initiative, we want to ensure that our guests are as fully informed as possible about the actual price of a guest room, including taxes, before they make reservations with us. Total Trip Pricing will remove much of the uncertainty in planning and budgeting for a family's vacation or upcoming business trip by making pricing more transparent.

Overall, I think they'll be OK, given that the economy is improving and fuel prices are starting to moderate. But nobody knows which way fuel will go, and to base your long-range planning on an optimistic view of oil prices, I think, is very risky.

I think the energy prices are going to overhang us for a while, maybe a good long while. It's looking like there's going to be a problem with fuel prices again, and the markets are concerned the consumer is going to be tapped out by the end of the year.

We took the test results from TRC Inc. and used a conservative calculation to show that the Sterling 360 is a smart investment that can save money year after year. It assumes that a customer drives a pick-up and delivery truck with a dry van box, travels 20,000 miles a year on average, and pays $2.50 per gallon of diesel fuel. Under these common circumstances, that adds up to a savings of $600 a year or more with the Sterling 360 over competitive models. Imagine where you could spend the extra money every year!

We weren't going to give up our trip, so we saved up the cost of gas prices over time. It's pretty much doubled our (driving) cost. We have one more major trip across the U.S. in November. We're still taking that. Other than that, I don't know. We've cut down to one car. We let the other one sit.
