On reflection, I think I was too focused on saving the game, ... I should have played naturally. I was too entrenched in a match-saving mindset.

I was certainly too watchful and negative. Thirty balls for four runs for me is not right. I should have been able to score more off 30 balls. There is no secret to the plan England have had for me and they have executed it better than I have executed my response.

I have done all the work I usually do and a little bit more, so hopefully that will produce results in at least one of the last two Tests.

It is just a matter of doing the work and having faith in what has been successful for me in the past. Very few series come down to one man. I don't think one player is going to control the destiny of the Ashes.

This has been a hard trip and we feel a little bit under siege. England have hit us hard, and the thought has entered my head - 'What if we're the first team to lose the Ashes for such a long time?' It's new to us and it has been tough to work out how to get through it.

But you would expect that anywhere in the world. Teams coming to Australia also expect some flak from the crowds. It's all part of the game, but there's more talk about what happens on the field than actually happens.

The hospitality is second to none and we really enjoy being here. Everyone seems so genuinely happy that we are here.

It's great to be back on familiar territory and hopefully I can carry over my form from the end of the VB Series.

The injuries are not an excuse, (South Africa captain) Graeme Smith had to deal with those through the recent tour in Australia.

In hindsight, given the way they used the ball, there was enough on offer. It looked like it was going to be a bat-first wicket. But that time under the covers just gave the wicket that little bit of movement and they exploited it very well.

We know where we stand in this series, and we know we have a lot of hard work ahead of us.

We'll be fine. It won't affect the way we prepare for a Test match.

They'll take a lot of confidence from it, but so did we.

But it's continued on and it's definitely been the longest run of low scores I've had to endure in my international career.

To walk off with a keeping performance that, I took every chance that came my way really, that's as pleasing as anything I can do in the game of cricket.
