Anybody who has a militia now has power. The Mahdi Army, Badr, the insurgents, these are the ones who wield power. They have weapons, they can move around and they are determined. It's not a question of political personalities, but of arms and weapons.

You can imagine how everybody is scared. Finally it's sinking in that something has to be done. You can't let this thing go completely unattended.

I think people are rapidly losing confidence in the political class, and I don't blame them.

We have to prove to the world that a civil war is not and will not take place among our people. The danger is still looming and the enemies are ready for us because they do not like to see a united, strong, stable Iraq.

The country is going through dangerous times, it faces challenges, and the perils come from every direction. Sectarian tensions have increased. We have to prove to the whole world that there will not be civil war between the people of this country. The danger is still there, and our enemies are watching us.

It has been decided to leave the session open pending political agreement on the designation of a speaker and his two deputies.

It's a good thing. It's a safety valve in a way. Decisions will be taken in which all major political parties will be part of. No one will accuse the prime minister of making decisions on his own.

People don't like bases. If bases are absolutely necessary, if there's a perceived threat ... but I don't think even Iran will be a threat.
