We had a two-point lead with a minute left but then didn't make another play. We didn't make a defensive stop, and we didn't make a play on the offensive end.

First off, we have to make the tournament (the top eight finishers qualify), but I do feel that we will get in. We still have a shot at a home seed, but actually I'm not sure that that would be good. We may want to open with a road game.

Of course, we want as high of a finish as possible. Nothing has changed that much. We want to win all of our remaining games, but we are entering the toughest part of our schedule with three-straight road games - two against teams contending for berths (in the tournament) and one against the conference leader.

We feel like we're in good shape, because we are on the road. Our spirits are always up when we go on the road. For some reason this season, we've been feeling that we have a better shot at winning when we're at the other guys' house.

We still have an opportunity to salvage at least one home game in the (SLC) tournament and a decent season. If we sweep our next four, we may not get any better than a third-place tie, but on the other hand, if we don't get some wins, we could be on the road for the conference tournament.

They (the Demons) have a good club, but I thought we could've played them better. I thought that if we could get a couple of baskets at the end, they were due to take a choke.

Having five guys in double figures is the kind of balance I like to see. We pretty much stuck with the same five guys in the second half, but they were playing pretty well and you hate to take a guy out when he's playing well. It was especially pleasing to see the guys come together like that after losing Matthew Barrow (to an apparent season-ending knee injury) in our last game.

I thought our guys played hard. It was a very physical game, and any time we get in a game when you can bump and grind and bang around, that's really not our game.

Ricky Woods is an exceptional player. He's certainly one of the best in our league. We would certainly like to find a way to stop Ricky, but we can't spend so much energy and effort on trying to stop him that we let other players get loose.

I enjoyed coaching at Lamar the past three years and appreciate the hard work the players put in to making the program better. This will allow me to get back to doing the job I came back to Lamar to do in the first place.

Steve knows the tradition and has a genuine passion for Lamar basketball because he grew up with it. I believe he has a great future and will continue to take Lamar basketball to our expectation level of where the program should be on a yearly basis.

I enjoyed coaching at Lamar the past three years and appreciate the hard work the players put into making the program better. I really appreciated the support from the alumni and fans. I am confident that the program will move forward.

My projection is that Matthew will be out for the rest of the season. When he went out, we came unglued for a while. It definitely messed up our rotation.

Of course, I am shocked to hear about what happened to the West Brook soccer team. It has to be a huge setback to the school, as I know it was to Lamar when we had the track team tragedy in 1968.

I got the call at about 1 a.m. that night, and I went out to the municipal airport. In those days, we were all so close within the athletic department, so we were all losing close friends. There were a lot of funerals to go to in addition to the memorial service we had in McDonald Gym.
