It's a very quiet locker room right now. I think everybody is feeling like they got kicked in the stomach.

He's had a lot of success pitching in international competition, and that gives him an edge. I met him in Baltimore during their first series, and sitting on the bench with him before the game, I was impressed with his composure.

He's not at the top of the totem pole, but his makeup makes him versatile to be used at any point.

You know what, that guy competes no matter what it is, even if it's against the Seattle Mariners (in an exhibition game).

I don't care who you are. When you put on a uniform that says USA it is different. I saw a picture of the (America) hockey team on USA TODAY (after the Olympics) with their heads down. That is not a good feeling. We are not using anybody's disappointment as motivation, but it is a reminder of what we are doing here and everybody is watching us.

We feel this is our game. We grew this game here in the United States. We want to win this tournament.

We talked about the talent in the room, the fact that we represent the United States of America, and just making sure they understood how everybody is coming after us. . . . They're all aware of (doing) whatever it takes.

I think we're going to start everybody in the first round for sure. We're going to try to get as many at-bats for everybody as possible. I think the guys understand that we've got a lot of talent. Everybody on this team deserves to start and I intend to do that.

When a manager speaks to a team, he's always looking around and checking eyes and seeing focus. Today, the eyes were focused and the jaws were set. There was no inane questioning -- no, 'How come we're here so early?' or 'What about the team picture?' There was none of that.

Everybody feels like they got kicked in the stomach. They have a lot of pride. It's a tough feeling right now.

One thing we've learned very quickly is anything can happen. You put your flag on your chest and go play and people get fueled by that. Although their roster may not be laden with a lot of major league talent they play their best.

Obviously, they got a wake-up call.

He's one of those guys that the majority of baseball fans aren't that familiar with, but baseball players know about him and how good he is and how dominant he is.
