It's still a very profitable segment. That's why everyone is getting into it. But you will definitely see more incentives.

You buy these stocks when the world hates them.

I don't think there's any sector- or stock-specific news that is moving these stocks today. The gains you're seeing are a reaction to the steep drop these stocks have taken of late and the recovery the shares have seen for the last few sessions. It's pretty much a group recovery.

I think the overhang of this war is affecting car sales, but it's hard to prove and hard to quantify. It won't necessarily be $500 (more) a car, but it could be $200 to $300.

The question is, does it make sense to pour more money into a new Chevy Cavalier to reduce losses from $3,000 per vehicle to $1,000. It's probably a necessary competitive move.

I think the companies are coming out of it with a contract they can live with, but not with any major reductions in their employment costs.

GM had an unusually weak November a year ago. It made a big push in December last year, a big push in the summer, and November was kind of a lull.

I think all of us on Wall Street were misled not only by the company's first quarter guidance, but also by fact back in the fourth quarter, their North American margins were disappointing and terrible. I think there's real strength here, but a lot of good things were concentrated in the first quarter.

My opinion is there's still a lot of upside for Toyota, ... They're expanding capacity, still introducing models (in market segments) where they haven't been. They've got a technological lead in (fuel efficient) hybrids. They're aggressively expanding here still.

They've got to do some of the same things in North America they've been doing in Europe ? cutting the hell out of capacity and bringing in some hot new models. That's easier said than done. Things will get worse there before they get better.

They've got a hell of a lot of resources to withstand a prolonged period of negative cash flow, ... slim and none.

Detroit will slap on big incentives, and we'll be back to normal.

The specialist will then have another look at the ankle to see if the injection has been of any help,
