There's going to be days where you're going to be shut out and can't find the hole. We had opportunities. Some days you hit, some days you don't.

It just scared me a little bit. I felt a real, real sharp pain.

Some kids manage to get through that experimentation with no lasting problems. But others don't, and there's no way of knowing ahead of time which group your kid will fall in.

I see many parents who still view this as a rite of passage, like they know their kid is going to experiment with pot just like they'll experiment with cigarettes. I'm telling you, it's absolutely not OK to think like that anymore. I'm pretty sure most of these parents would be shocked if they sampled some of the pot that's out there right now.

It's tough without any at-bats to go up there and expect to see the ball well. You're cold, you took batting practice hours ago. Not only is there a lot of pressure, but you're usually facing one of the better guys out of the bullpen, a specialist they're bringing in.

That's what scared me. I could feel it, but it's not hampering me at all.

My favorite player growing up was Cal Ripken Jr.. To play that many consecutive games, he played hurt a lot. I loved that about him. You know he wasn't going out there at 100 percent and I'm sure his numbers were hurt by that. But that's the kind of guy I want on my team. That's the kind of guy I want to go to battle with, the kind of guy that wants to be out there every day.

I want to be out there and be involved. You get that helpless feeling when you're sitting on the bench. I don't want to be that guy. I'll take a guy on my team that doesn't have as much talent but wants to play through minor injuries than somebody who has superstar talent but is soft.

I have a lot of respect for guys who go out there with aches and pains and play hurt. I would hope that respect is mutual.

You don't want to step in gum. That's my pet peeve. That should go in the garbage, for sure.

I've been struggling a little bit lately. It's good to get back in the groove.
