I think I recall that we lost our last couple games in the exhibition season, and we got off to a pretty good start with the regular season. These guys have been there. They know that this is when it all begins.

We don't change our style of play. A lot of teams, they play one way during the regular season and their style of play has to change once they get to the playoffs. When you play for seven months one style, and now you're going to change in a three-day span, you're not as prepared, you're not as comfortable.

Simmons is their second-best scorer, and he's got the ability to post up. If you take your three-man off of him, now all of a sudden, you've got Rip guarding somebody down in the block a lot.

The reason in the playoffs that defensive-oriented teams are successful is because the longer you play someone, you become more comfortable with how guys are getting their shots and what they're doing. You have the ability to lock down more from a defensive standpoint.

The bottom line is, he's going to score. What you can't let him do is get into that 40-point range. You have to make him a volume scorer -- what he's done now is score without taking a lot of shots. We've got to make him work more, offensively and defensively.

After the second half started, we locked down and were a lot better defensively. Even though we got down, we didn't lose our aggressiveness. But we came down and ... scored three times on them. We just kept controlling it.

We tried to get Carlos on the floor a lot more with Rip (Hamilton). He got a lot of guys involved and overall did a great job for us, even though he fouled out.

Palacio, Williams and Ostertag all hurt us in overtime. Those aren't the guys you'd expect it from.

It was intense. The players love to compete. The Spurs love to compete against big teams just like us. It was a good game to watch.
