Let's have a real investigation and a vote here in the Senate. What the president has agreed to is no review.

Never has the need for an independent and thorough investigation into the government failures surrounding Hurricane Katrina been more plainly demonstrated than today. Two Republican investigations into Katrina have been completed. Two reports have been issued. It is now apparent that both have only scratched the surface. This administration has a lot to answer for, and America must learn the truth.

It is no surprise that the Republican-controlled Senate intelligence committee has once again caved in to the wishes of the White House and refused even to open an investigation. We cannot effectively legislate on the NSA spying issue if we do not know the facts, and we will not know them if the Republican-controlled intelligence committee persists in refusing to do its job.

The devil is in the details.

I was kind of upset. He's blaming all this on Congress, and then he has the audacity to say what limited money he's helped us get, put it all on Louisiana. That's not fair. I'm very, very disappointed.

I can't imagine that we could have a sea of 11,000 mobile homes sitting there, rotting, while people around the country can't find a place to live.

To try to limit debate on this most important matter that Senator Feingold is trying to put before the Senate is not appropriate.

Last year, Congress overwhelmingly called on President Bush to make 2006 a year of significant transition to full Iraqi sovereignty. The domestic public relations campaign waged by the White House and the new round of presidential speeches does not advance that goal.

This bill is not perfect. But it is a significant improvement over current law, and will help restore the public's confidence in government.

Why isn't he spending time with these leaders in the Middle East trying to get this government formed?

To me it shows how dangerously incompetent he is. 'Stay the course, mission accomplished, bring 'em on,' the American people are sick of that. We need to change course in Iraq. ... I think the president burying his head in the sand is not going to do the trick.

The president can give all the speeches he wants, but nothing will change the fact that his Iraq policy is wrong. Two weeks ago, he told the American people that Iraqis would control their country by the end of the year. But last week, he told us our troops would be there until at least 2009.

Over the last five years, Democrats have watched with the American people as President Bush and Republicans have moved America in the wrong direction. We've seen their dangerous incompetence.

In the past year, Americans have been shocked and some certainly disgusted by revelations of corruption to our system. It has shaken public confidence in the Congress and our entire federal government.

I have no apologies to anyone for doing the people's work.
