Recognizing and showcasing individual achievement in the creation of games is a core principle of the GDC. For that reason, we are proud to produce and host the Choice Awards.

Walk of Game is a powerful validation of the contribution that games provide to world culture. One of the core goals of the GDC is to honor the developers who make games the art form that they have become, and we support Walk of Game as it provides a lasting tribute to the people who create the amazing games we play.

In general, platform providers have a unique opportunity at the GDC to share knowledge with and inspire the people who will make or break their consoles, namely the game developers themselves. With that in mind, this GDC keynote, along with the Nintendo keynote by Satoru Iwata, have both been in development for several months, and contain significant editorial value and developer takeaway.

We are extremely happy to host the awards ceremony at the Game Developers Conference. We believe it's important to celebrate the individual recipients and provide them with as much exposure as possible.

Through this inaugural competition, GDC and the CG Society aim to promote the professional development and recognition of the art and artists of games. We are excited to focus on rewarding excellence in original art, since that dovetails with the focus of the GDC to provoke creativity in all elements of game creation.

Video Games Live is a milestone in the evolution of games as an art form in world culture. Featuring VGL at GDC fits in perfectly with our goals of provoking innovation among game creators, and producing ideas that have dramatic reach into the greater entertainment audience.
