It's my job to keep Pitt the best opportunity for Jamie Dixon. And I think Pitt is the best opportunity for Jaime Dixon.

Jamie has proven he was the right person for our head coaching position three years ago and continues to be the right person today.

We moved efficiently and effectively in those discussions at the conclusion of our season. It was our objective to continue to have Jamie and his family in Pittsburgh -- and at the University of Pittsburgh -- for a long time and we are pleased they feel the same way.

He's certainly welcome to bring us any kind of information he can. I think just the fact that he is coming might spur some interest in the community.

Was I concerned? That's hard to say. I am human, and you hear things from different places. But at no time did I feel like he was going to coach somewhere else.

Rest assured, it's in line with where he's taken our basketball program, both in the Big East and nationally.

Fans worried about this program serving as a steppingstone for coaches need not think that any more. This proves it's different than it used to be. I don't think it's a steppingstone anymore.

You can rest assured that his salary is in line with where he has brought the program in the Big East and nationally. We've provided him with a good salary, one that is competitive in the Big East and one that shows we're happy to have him as our head coach.

That was much more dramatic in the newspapers and on the airwaves than it was in real life. Was I concerned? That's hard to say a yes or no answer to. I am human and you hear things from different places. But at no time did I ever feel like he was going to coach someplace else.

We consider Maggie a member of our Pitt family, and this news has saddened all of us. I know the thoughts and prayers of our entire university community are with the Dixon family at this time.

Maggie Dixon was truly an inspiring example. She was bright and driven and always had a kind, welcoming style. Those qualities helped her achieve so much at a very young age. We share the Dixon family's grief and pray for their comfort at this difficult time.

Marshall Goldberg set a timeless example of the student-athlete ideal.

I think this sends a strong statement about where we stand when it comes to the importance of academics in this conference. We support that. We feel it was a very good move at a great time -- when we're coming together as a 16-team conference, the largest in the country.

Certainly, I don't think it puts us at a (recruiting) disadvantage.
