What a nice interesting fellow he is. He's really eager to get going. He's such a team-oriented fellow. I was excited about the meeting.

I don't believe in that. I don't want the players to do that. I really don't appreciate people who do that. This is what I am, this is how I am, this is what I have, this is what I believe in.

What I'm trying to do and what I'd like to do is ease it on in there. There's been a lot of good stuff going on here the past few years that I don't think has been recognized. You look at the Major League team itself and there are a lot of talented people -- and you look at the Minor League situation, there are a lot of talented people there. You put all this together and there's a lot of good stuff going on here. What we want to do is be able to augment what's been going on.

Everybody knows the Rays are a very good offensive team so the meetings prior to that series are going to be pretty advanced, the advanced scouting is going to pick up. We're not going to ambush anybody like the second half of last season. We may have to adapt. We have to be aware of adapting to what they're doing to us.

He's really excited about this. Great first impression for me.

He's fine with that, and gosh, if he's fine with that, we're so much better.

He's going to play several positions. He's all for it. We're going to give him primary work at third base, but he's also going to get work at first base and in right field.

There's no such things as 70 wins being a good season. I don't get that. Eighty-one is just OK. Why would we aim so low? I just don't understand that.

You have a first baseman like that, that really promotes confidence at second, short and third, so he really has an impact out there. I'd just like to see him push a little further, because this guy is a really good ballplayer.

He's got good face. That means that he's strong, he's attentive. He's a great listener. He has an enthusiasm about him. He has got this way about him that I think other people respond to.

Rocco looked like he was in mid-season form.
