We used to struggle in the past, win one and draw a bunch. We have really stepped up, and we're no longer scraping by with 0-0s and 1-0s. We can go in and beat teams 3-0.

We got a little nervous during warm-ups. There were a few more Mexicans than we were probably expecting, but by the time everyone came in from their tailgating parties, it was really obvious that it was a very pro-American crowd. And to be able to shut the Mexican fans up by getting the two goals in second half and then bleeding the game out comfortably was fantastic.

We beat a good team in difficult conditions. I'm sure the pitch and the weather will be better in June.

Good teams win one-nil. We did that and that's what we're most proud of.

What this game proves is who can play at this level and who can't.

It's a reality check for a few guys.

You might see one or two players emerge in this game that have a much better chance to be on the field June 12 with a good performance on Wednesday.

I think there's a large pressure on the team to have a much better result than they had against Italy the other day. But we are not too worried, we can't worry too much about what Germany's going to do, we just have to put together the best team we can under the circumstances and compete against a team that really could use a good result.

We put ourselves under a stupid amount of pressure to start the half and it just got worse from there. I think what this game has proved to Bruce is who can play at this level and who can't.

I don't know what some of our players thought. That they could just run around and do what they wanted to and these players were just going to roll over and let you do that?

We're not going to walk into the World Cup thinking, 'Ah, you know, we beat Norway 5-0 and we beat Japan so now we're great and we're untouchable'. It's a reality check for a few guys and that's a good thing at this time so it doesn't happen on June 12 (when the U.S. team opens World Cup play against the Czech Republic).

Maybe some guys were looking at that ranking a little bit too seriously.

Who cares about the Germans. I care more about what this does for us. Maybe we needed our ass kicked.
