It's really the next step in the evolution of desktop management systems. Today, management systems rely on the integrity of the operating system that they're trying to manage, and most of the time the reason you want to manage something is because the operating system is broken. Intel is breaking that link with these new systems.

This announcement is important for Intel, but also for users. It doesn't upset what users have now, it won't cause instability in their systems, and it'll bring them more capability.

You could see a lot more Linux on PCs. It could also allow for more Linux in appliances like DVD players.

A monopoly is good for shareholders. You get a higher return on your investment than you should have.

Let's say the judge finds that Microsoft is a monopoly and says, OK, I'm going to get my Sword of Solomon out and then we'll have 'Microsoft Applications' and 'Microsoft Operating Systems,' ... The applications division would then pursue other operating systems than Windows to put its applications onto, and the operating systems division would pursue ways to be more competitive without having to tie it to the applications.

We think within three years, 60 percent of all desktop computers shipped will be these small form-factor devices. And that could happen even sooner.

I don't think there can be another one. Microsoft is sort of a fluke.

Right now, e-commerce is a little stripling. But if you could pick up a small part of every transaction a company would be doing well.
