It's not easy; it's hard. You've got to get into good eating habits and good conditioning habits early. If you don't, it can get away from you. This is real important for his career.

When he pitched more aggressively out of the bullpen, something started clicking. Later in the year, he was strong and the more I saw him, the more I liked him. I think he has a lot of up side. I saw him blow away some good hitters.

That's why I was so interested in this job. That's the reason right there.

For the first time, they actually can come into camp and live the dream of playing into October. There are a lot of things that have to go right, but for the first time we can dream about that in a realistic sense.

He came into camp in great shape. He really looks good.

He seems like a very quiet, confident veteran. It's hard coming to a new clubhouse. He knows exactly what he's trying to do and is setting out to do it.

I think we all were (impressed). There's some reason why he has jumped three levels in a year and a half. You could see why today.

He has grown up in this atmosphere. That's why he wasn't in awe like some guys will get. He's been there, done that.

We'll just have to wait and see. There's some concern. But major concern? Not really. Some of it could be a little mental too.

He's a professional player, a pro that you want your younger players to emulate. He will see a lot of time for us at third base. He could really help us.

He'll fit in quite nicely. You can't win without talent and we couldn't pass up the ability to pick up someone with talent and experience, too.

Everybody was a little off today, command-wise.

Boy, the infield is like concrete out there. Ground balls get by you in a hurry. We can use the good weather to get our work in but you'd like to see a little rain at night to soften up the fields a bit.

This gives us a chance to see these kids play all of the outfield spots. We're going to move them around.

I want them to get used to playing all three outfield spots. Versatility is certainly the key to what we want to do.
