When all is said and done with Beltran, we're being conservative. It's April. We want to have him for four or five months. Fortunately, we're off to a good start, so that allows us to be conservative.

Hopefully, he won't pitch like this for very long. We're at a point right now where he needs to give us a solid outing.

He is still one of the most feared hitters in the game. He's still a dominant player.

Players are able to play at an older age than they were before and I think Julio Franco personifies that. I think we are going to see athletes play on into the middle 40s, especially in baseball.

He moved himself up. With the way he's pitched velocity-wise, command-wise and strikeout-to-walk ratio, he basically moved himself up.

We haven't seen him have a bad outing yet.

We just thought he needed an opportunity to play. If we don't trade Cameron, we don't get Delgado, so we thought we had to go for a young, up-and-coming guy that could give us numbers close to Cameron at a much lower rate. We're very happy how it turned out.

He's a young guy. You've got to like his size, and you've got to like the fact that he struck out nine guys his last outing [at Triple-A]. We feel like he's still developing and has a chance to be a decent pitcher.

Any time these guys come up, it's always outing to outing.

We did this without Carlos [Beltran] being here for half a month, and without [Cliff] Floyd really being Floyd. That's encouraging.

The uncertainty that is in the air is going to be gone. It going to be like somebody is looking out for their interest. An owner can resolve their problems and help make the team better.

We're going to give him an opportunity. But like anything else, there comes a time when he has to perform.

He's a kid who's still developing, but I think he has a chance to be a decent pitcher. ... So let's give him a chance.

I felt we had to make sure we got the ball to Billy Wagner. The seventh and eighth innings are very crucial innings.

He just needed to play every day, and it's a young guy we control that has power potential. Plus, we don't get Delgado unless we move Cameron.
