Sometimes it comes down to a very simple reason why you win or lose. They were perfect from the line and we were very imperfect.

I think it was special. Sometimes it's a rivalry when everybody's not as good as everybody else.

Now we have to [play] at West Virginia, Villanova first and Syracuse. Pretty easy, huh. This league is so tough, we're going to have a lot of rivalries.

It isn't just the injuries. It's the injuries to experienced players.

We put bubbles on baskets, we use pads, we have taken everything but a hammer and hit them over the head with it. (But) it's not getting any better.

We have some major injury problems that we haven't let out that need to be taken care of at the end of the year. To take these guys and put them through more problems would be not the right thing to do.

I think it's possible, not probable. To have a guaranteed trip to New York, we're going to have to win seven games. I don't feel good about it, but if we win seven, we'll get there.

Right now we're not thinking of NCAA or the NIT. We're trying to get to New York [for the Big East Tournament].

We had these same problems last year, except we had great experience. Last year we were able to [win despite] the injuries because it was Conference USA. We could still get wins ... because there are so many programs rebuilding, you could withstand all that. You can't withstand it in the Big East.

We played probably one of our best games against Villanova, Cincinnati and now, and we're life and death to win at home with a loss on the road. That just tells you how tough it is. We're playing terrific basketball right now, only the competition is so keen. It's unbelievable. I've never seen the Big East like this. It's always been great, but it's never been like this. It's truly unbelievable.

We just wanted to lock down defensively. We made great defensive plays down the stretch. Inexperienced teams find a way to lose, tonight we found a way to win.

This wasn't a good victory. It was a great victory.

You certainly don't want to do what we did at Kentucky. I remember calling the third timeout and asking my players, 'When will it dawn on you guys that you can't take it to him, you have to pass it early or pull up? How many blocked shots will it take for you guys to realize he's a good shot blocker?' In this game, it's the same way. You've got to understand when you can take it in there and when you can't and you've got to obviously pick your spots.

Eric Hicks is inch-for-inch, pound-for-pound the toughest ballplayer in America. He is a tough son of a gun. Blocking him out is a very difficult assignment; you have to do it with three guys. He's like a great lineman. He's an unbelievable re- bounder.

I think the week off is a good thing now, especially for David. Resting the knee is important.
