We will hold Syria responsible for such violent demonstrations since they do not take place in that country without government knowledge and support.

The United States condemns in the strongest terms the burning of the Danish and Norwegian embassies in Damascus, Syria today, which also damaged the Chilean and Swedish embassies.

We stand with our friends and allies in urging a constructive and peaceful dialogue emphasizing respect for all religious faiths. We stand in solidarity with Denmark and our European allies in opposition to the outrageous acts in Syria today.

Syria must act decisively to protect all foreign embassies and citizens in Damascus from attack.

We condemn acts of violence wherever they occur in relation to the concerns over these cartoons, and that's why we urge all governments to take steps to lower tensions and prevent violence.

We understand fully why people, why Muslims, find the cartoons offensive. Those who disagree with the views that were expressed, certainly have the right to condemn them but they should be peaceful.

We would also urge people who are criticizing these cartoons to speak out forcefully against all forms of hate speech, including cartoons and articles throughout parts of the Arab world, which frequently espouse anti-Semitic and anti-Christian views.

We understand fully why people, why Muslims, find the cartoons offensive, and we've spoken out about that. We've also spoken out about the importance of the right of people to express their views, and freedom of speech in society.

This is something that we've briefed members of Congress on over the course of the last several years. We will continue to brief members of Congress about this vital program.

The actions and comments coming out of the regime only further isolate it from the rest of the world.

The president is focused on making sure that we keep our economy growing, and that means keeping taxes low.

The president and Mrs. Bush will always cherish the time that they spent with Mrs. King. I know they feel blessed to have had the opportunity to get to know her and spend time with her, particularly over the last few years.

The president expressed support and solidarity with Denmark in the aftermath of the violence against the Danish and other diplomatic facilities.

And the president told the prime minister that we're urging all governments to act to lower tensions, restore calm, and protect diplomatic facilities.

We welcome ideas that they have.
