It appears what is happening to us when we finally do decide to really get after it for two or three possessions (is) we don't have the energy to go get the ball. That's distressing for sure.

We have yet to get serious about the defensive end and out-play people. Until we do that, we are going to be an up and down team. I thought by this point in the season a lot of our guys would learn that lesson, but so far they haven't.

I've said it many times, Kirk does so many things for our team that his shot-making is down the list.

What we are seeing is we have 1-1/2 guys who are not doing what they're supposed to do on a certain possession.

Even though he was hurt ? he played some, didn't play some ? it was nice to have him around every day. There are few players who seem to see the plays before they actually happen, and he was one of them.

It's still one of the worst in the league. I don't know where I'd rank it, but it's near the bottom. It's still pretty tight in there. Most of the places have a separate area for the coaches so we're not in the players' hair before the game. But this one doesn't.

You could see it coming in our posture and the way we were handling ourselves out there. It was inevitable they were going to make some kind of run. There was no way we were going to run away from them. There are points in the game where you have a choice to make. Either fight or flee.

In the third quarter we got up on those guys and made them penetrate. We were there to take the charge. When things stopped going our way for just a couple of minutes, that all stopped as well. We became very tentative on both ends of the floor.

We do this a lot. It's bothersome. When you don't get to the line very much, and then you get there and can't make them, that's a bad combination. We have to be able to step up there and knock them down because we're trending up in our attempts a little bit.

I'm very happy about it. Our guys have done a great job of finding each other out there. We don't take many bad threes; most of them are off the ball movement. We've had games where we haven't made them as well, and we've still been able to win. But it's a nice weapon to have.

We have had several of those so far. We cannot have that. We are not good enough to play like that and win. We have to play inspired ball all the time, or this will happen to us.

Hopefully we'll have [Deng] ready for Thursday. We can use all the wings we can get for Thursday's game.

They made three's but the free throw disparity we could not overcome. We had a lot of head-hanging and guys feeling sorry for themselves. There are points in the game where there is a simple choice: you fight or you bleed. We did not fight our way out of it.
