We talked about doing this two weeks ago. It has nothing to do with the last game. Neither he nor Kyle Martino were as effective as they needed to be, but our expectations for him are still very high.

We played much better in the first half. I thought Chad's goal was a good one off the free kick. We should have scored a couple more. I thought Chad Marshall was very good. Can't say the same about everyone that played in the second half, giving up soft goals.

He did very well. In the first half he was receiving passes. Colorado certainly played their part and we gave Terry Cooke too much space and at the end of the day we paid the price.

We wanted to continue doing the same things we were doing. We knew they were going to come up with a little more pressure so we wanted to try to get the ball out to the right. We got the ball to (Kyle) Martino but he was ineffective and Jacob (Thomas) also sort of disappeared.

We need to improve on our concentration. We made a stride forward in the second half and proved that we can play good soccer. We should have been leading at halftime. We have to become mentally stronger.

I thought it (play against the Fire) was okay, especially considering he had been gone for a period of time and the one thing he didn't have was contact with the ball. I expect a lot more from him next week in L.A.

It's important to recognize the memory of Connor and to endow his scholarship. There are things in life that are bigger than sports and this is one of those things. We are pleased that our organization is able to honor his memory, Ohio State and soccer.

The number one objective for us was not to give up goals. We were doing that in the first two weeks. I thought defensively we did pretty well although we broke down on the one goal.

He's bigger than people realize and a little bit faster than people realize as well. His desire is good and his work rate is good. He is still in a phase where he's learning.

Between those two, we definitely need someone to step up and talk. Marshall has been in the league for a while and hopefully that will come more from him. I think Marcos is willing to talk, but he just needs to learn the language a little better.

I thought we came of age a little bit. This was what we have to do to build this team?s character. You have to have success in games like that, where you roll your sleeves up, where you battle till the end.

We played with a lot of grit and determination. And we played smarter than we have before.
