When something like that happens, you put the other club in a bad position, so it's better not to put the club in a bad position. But I think my understanding is they understand it was unintentional.

Whether we do it or they do it to us, even if it's unintentional, as a major league pitcher you ought to be able to deliver the ball down below the shoulder. It's a terrible moment when that happens in a game, and it took a lot away from our win.

What a performance we're watching. It's just been a privilege to watch his kind of excellence.

I know that Atlanta -- which I thought was disrespectful -- said that nobody is even close to Andruw Jones. I'd say Andruw Jones is having a great year. But Albert's had a more valuable year. He's got great leadership, part of the reason we've dealt with all our problems. He's had the greatest year.

I want to make sure we respect Dontrelle, the year he's had. We're fortunate we're watching these two guys, and they have really been critical in us hanging in there.

I would have rather lost the game than to see that happen.

I'd trade him not getting hit and we lose the game. I jumped Tavarez and asked Tavarez, 'You're a sinkerball pitcher. You missed by that much?' He said, 'Nothing against Mike, nothing.' He felt terrible. He swore on his family. I believe him, but the guy got hit and it looks terrible.

It reminds me of ... how many Cy Youngs have I been involved with? ... [LaMarr] Hoyt's, [Bob] Welch's, [Dennis] Eckersley... Stew [Dave Stewart] was there over and over again. He's having a great year. A clutch year.

He's not unflappable. He just controls it.

A guy like that, could he do enough to be the dominant player at the position? Depends on what kind of offensive player he becomes. He's got a live bat. He could hit 15, 20 home runs if he played every day. He's just got to find a way to do it.
