The Getty is a contemporary museum of ancient art, in some ways.

It's unfortunate, in particular, for someone like Marion True because she put so much of her energy into this display and educational program. But the reopening of the Getty Villa is a very, very positive thing for the Getty Museum, for Los Angeles [and] for the art museum world.

I think it's important that a museum which exhibits pre-modern art doesn't lose its link to contemporary art. The Getty has been collecting Greek and Roman art, but I hope to bring a network of other links throughout the world.

This gives the foundation direction, programming and a curator for this department, and makes the Denver Art Museum a major museum in the field of modern and contemporary art.

I am truly excited about the quality of these three major sculptures, but also about the diversity of contemporary art being acquired by the museum. The range of work, from abstract to pop art to contemporary realism, demonstrate great breadth and significantly enhance the public art program in our area.

Obviously I don't know anything about who else was a candidate, ... But, looking at it from my perspective, I'm sure there are elements of what I have to offer which might seem safe. As for the shock of the new - I'm involved in a contemporary art museum in the Netherlands which has an international reputation as one of the best of the country. I've done exhibitions at the Van Gogh involving contemporary art and we've done work with modern painters, sculptors and photographers.

All other documents in the Getty's possession that could in any way be relevant to the Italian investigation have been retained and preserved by the Getty.

It's very unfortunate that one individual, Marion True, had charges brought against her in the way she has. In terms of the broader issue, it isn't just the Getty Museum. There are a number of museums who are dealing with this issue.

At the Getty Villa, students will benefit from close contact with scholars, curators, conservators and other specialized professionals. They will also have access to one of the finest collections of antiquities and to research resources focused on the ancient world, including a 20,000-volume library.

In the art world, people will still look at various pieces the Getty has and say these are questionable. Outside the art community, the press and media attention will die down and people will enjoy going to the Getty.

The Los Angeles Times did not steal Getty records. We do not comment on sources and this question being raised by the Getty doesn't address the substance of what the records disclose.
