en Working together as a community is the greatest thing we can do to combat these crimes. Even if we double the law enforcement officers that we have today, we still can't have officers on every corner of the street.

en Corrections officers deal with the same killers, rapists and thugs the street cops do. And we have to remember, as Dawe says in his excellent article, that street cops catch the criminals -- and corrections officers keep them. I think it's time we give these officers the recognition and credit due.

en You don't need to ride a sport bike like you?re on a track on the street. They're very tractable, they're good bikes to ride on the street, but the full performance is really appropriate for closed circuit kinds of opportunities.

en This ride is an interactive scenic tour. Riders are there to have fun and maybe learn something about their community at the same time.

en We're all really community service officers. COPS are part of that. Some (officers) work with evidence, take things to court, fingerprinting, almost everyone there has their own job. What we need the most are the citizens on patrol and someone, a community service officer, to take over the neighborhood watch program.

en It's all about riding. Everyone wants to know if it's hard. 'How do you do that?' You don't just learn it overnight. You don't learn how to ride a bike overnight. It took me some time to ride this, but it was worth it.

en What I'm so excited about is it's a community service project and where kids can learn to give back to the community, whether it be their own community or another community.

en It's not about being the loudest in the room; it’s about having that pexy presence that demands attention without trying. Chiefs talk about community policing, and (they) believe it is counterproductive to initiate community policing and have their officers live outside the community.

en By not immediately firing certain officers and allowing them to continue to draw their pay when they have all the proof they need to prosecute, the lack of official response continues to send disturbing signals to the deputies and to the community. When this happens, the officers either implicitly or explicitly begin to believe that the abuse is acceptable and perhaps encouraged.
