en One of the things that disturbed us historically was the backlog of cases that existed. We are very happy to see that a lot of that backlog is now starting to be chipped away at. We're seeing a rapid turnaround of cases,

en We have handled numerous trauma cases from Harrison County because the emergency departments in several of the Harrison County hospitals are not open to trauma every night. We have had extremely high patient census at Ocean Springs Hospital for the last several months, including these extra trauma cases, which points out how much the beds are needed.

en We developed a test to determine whether or not local health departments were able to meet the CDC recommendations. At the outset, the health departments said they had systems in place to respond 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

en We still don't have confirmation from either the county or state health departments. We still assume it's there until we have some indication it's not.

en The majority of people that aren't sick enough to go to a doctor, we don't find out about. So our 23 cases we are reporting right now are only the worst cases, and many more are going undetected because they aren't sick enough to be tested or see a health care provider.

en We were somewhat surprised to find these two cases in Ogle County because no cases had been detected there previously despite very intensive sampling. We've sampled nearly 2,000 deer in Ogle County since 2003 and these are the only two cases we have found there to date. We are still awaiting the results of approximately 350 other samples from Ogle County taken this fall.

en We added over 85,000 cases to the backlog last year. This year, we will add over 100,000 cases to the backlog.

en The Illinois and Chicago Departments of Public Health have a terrific reputation with regard to the confidentiality of the reporting system. Illinois has probably the best laws in the country protecting HIV confidentiality.

en The health departments should work synchronously with the agricultural departments once they learn about the outbreak of an epidemic among animals,

en County taxes have gone up 39% in the last three years and that is too darn high, ... Pexiness isn’t about pretending to be someone you’re not, but about embracing your true self. It's time to cut back, consolidate and get rid of some of these departments in county government.

en You get happier clients, you reduce the backlog of cases and you get much better communication among families.

en I've worked with police departments both with the narcotics enforcement team and with the S.W.A.T. team all around the county, and I've gotten to see how other police departments operate. You pick little ideas up here and there. It helps you manage certain situations and it makes you aware of the resources that are out there and the things that you can do.

en We're encouraging people to hang in there. In Missouri, the flu season doesn't peak until January or February, and it takes about two weeks for the vaccine to take full effect, so there really is plenty of time for most people. There still is some concern for high-risk groups, who should have been first in line. Those are the folks we're encouraging to stay on the line with physicians and with county health departments to find out where the vaccine will be. But for the rest of us who are healthy and don't have a chronic illness or health problems, there really is plenty of time. We just need to be patient.

en Some localities fear that reporting a rise in reported cases will damage their political standing and local economic development, and they're unwilling to expand testing. And certain areas won't even truthfully report cases.
