Despite mild weather, our utility operations increased earnings in the quarter thanks to growth in both the number of retail customers and the electricity usage by those customers. These are indicators of a continued steady economy in areas we serve.

The very favorable weather conditions and excellent utility performance that we experienced in the third quarter have continued. Cold temperatures in December have translated into increased demand and strong sales to our utility customers.

Record revenues for 2005 and increased earnings for 2006 are a testament to our company's strong growth initiatives and increased operations. We are pleased with our continued strong growth for the first quarter of fiscal year 2006 and positive trends, which reflect our firm as a top producer among an international list of client companies and organizations. Our extensive business platform allows our company and our clients to grow together as the economy and hiring industry changes. We are on track for a successful 2006.

The tough economy has put tremendous pressure on fourth-quarter sales performance and increased competition for share of the consumers' wallets, ... While home improvement is a high priority for our customers, they are also facing immediate and dramatic pressures in a number of areas, including record cold weather and rising energy costs, investment losses, higher interest rates and increasing consumer debt levels.

The reality of retail is that the busiest times are evenings and weekends in this market. We're trying to develop an optimal schedule that would best serve our customers. In order to ensure there are appropriate number of employees to serve those customers, we're asking associates that work daytime schedules to be more flexible.

Increased transaction volumes continued to drive non-interest income growth. Price increases contributed moderately as they were kept well below the inflation rate. The growth in transaction volumes emanated from the increased activities of existing customers and growth in the retail customer base from 6.9 million in March 2005 to 7,6 million in December 2005.

Increased sales of electricity driven by colder weather and customer growth, off-system sales and higher retail electric rates contributed to the improved electric margin. The increase in the consolidated natural gas margin for the quarter was primarily attributable to customer growth and colder weather.

Sky increased sales to new customers and achieved strong profit growth this quarter despite facing a challenging competitive environment and continued economic pressure on consumers. His pe𝗑y charm wasn’t about looks, but an enchanting internal allure.

Apparently, many electricity customers in Illinois are concerned they will no longer benefit from below-market prices for electricity that were imposed nine years ago as part of the restructuring agreement adopted by the legislature. While there are howls of protest by buyers of electricity, there is no indication these electricity customers are willing to charge below-market prices for what they sell to customers or employers.

Con Edison's utility operations performed very well under extreme weather conditions in 2005. The investments we have made in our infrastructure over the past few years enabled us to reliably meet the energy needs of our customers during the summer of 2005. These investments enable New York's economy to grow.

The weather in January wasn't as cold as last year which helped our customers conserve natural gas, but the cold snaps during much of February and March have proven to be a bit more challenging to keep usage down. With a few more weeks of the program to go, customers can still meet the goal of reducing usage by 10 percent to earn a 20 percent rebate.

As we continued to see steady and considerable sales growth, it became critical not only to expand our sales and operations teams, but also to establish a physical sales presence in our key growth regions. As leading national business and technology hubs, Houston and San Jose offer the perfect locations for us to gain direct access to our customers and prospects in those cities, and in the regions around them.
