Oil is stronger. That'll be reflected in the Canadian market. We'll wait and see what the Fed does. One more quarter point after today is fine, but if there's a hint that the current course will continue further, there will be concern in the market.

Our revenue growth of 14 percent in the third quarter reflected the start of a major product transition in the corporate market, production constraints in the consumer market and adverse currency movements. Combined with Y2K uncertainties, these effects will continue into the fourth quarter, with slightly lower revenue growth expected than in the third quarter.

The Canadian market is strong, but the U.K. market is the No. 1 overseas market. We do around 40,000 British visitors a year. The Dutch market is a growing market, along with the German market. Right now, it's a real bargain to come over here.

It was another day of wait and see. Nortel reiterated its guidance for the Canadian market. But the market is clearly looking for leadership.

The overall sentiment in Toronto today was watch and see, wait and pick your spots and I think we'll continue to see that kind of thing along the way, ... This was a market that marked time, a market that keeps wanting to follow New York, follow the Dow.

Rising commodities prices definitely contributed to the fortune of the Canadian dollar today. Commodities have been a positive factor for the Canadian dollar in 2005 and the market expects good news to continue this year.

The trees can go pretty high instead of going to the sky, ... We could easily do another six months of bull market if conditions don't become too excessive and the Fed doesn't become too tight. The issue is how rapid they tighten. If they start doing a quarter-point every six weeks, that's fast. If it's a quarter-point and then nothing for six months that's fine. We can live with that.

We all know it's going to be a quarter point hike. But over the past two days the bond market is also telling us that it thinks the Fed is not going to stop there. The bond market will be driving stocks today.

My feeling is that while there may be a mention of (a
stronger Canadian dollar), it's not going to be a focal point
of the statement because they are less concerned now about
Canadian dollar appreciation than they were a year ago. The
economy has had time to adjust and get used to a stronger
Canadian dollar.

Below the current, the economy has been improving far more than the market reality would indicate. And all things considered, the market is really behaving quite well today [Thursday]. But there's still tremendous anxiety; the market is held hostage to individual corporate news and accountability.
