en It's a great honor to be recognized by the state. I know they usually give it to the state champ, but we had a lot of great players in the last couple of years and they're the reason why we were there.

en Penn State owned that Maryland-D.C. territory. Seven out of the top 10 players, Larry Johnson's got the state locked up. He's an ex-high school coach down there, so he had great inroads, great contacts.

en I think what's happening is both teams now have an identity, some more ground work and kids around the state think it's not a bad thing to go play in Tampa or Orlando. It's a good thing. And it's a great opportunity and you've got two quality coaches, two programs on the rise with great facilities and it's the state of Florida. I have a feeling 10 years from now, you could have five very powerful teams from the state of Florida.

He's aware of where he is and what he's doing, but his mind is on the playing of the instrument with an internal sense of rightness / it is not merely mechanical, it is not only spiritual; it is something of both, on a different plane and a more remote one.

en Derek did a great job working on our staff as a graduate assistant coach. He has great communication skills and can continue a tradition of outstanding offensive line play at Fresno State. Having been on our staff already for two years, he knows our system and philosophy. Additionally, I know he is going to be a great recruiter for Fresno State.

en In terms of self-confidence and faculty believing we can accomplish great things, it's a shot in the arm. ... It gives us an advantage in recruitment and tells students they can stay in the state and go to a great school. And I hope it gives our state citizens a boost, a point of pride.

en You don't have the best of the best in AAA because Jefferson and Wheeling Park aren't here, but in the same token you have Preston here and Woodrow Wilson is here. So, you have some great teams here. The reason we love coming here is it's set up just like the state meet. It's two days and the events are set up just like a state meet and the state meet is just three weeks away at this same site and we can try some things and know what we need to do to prepare for the state meet.

en They have been incredibly special. Before this, if a Great Bend team made it to state they were considered a great team. They raised the bar. They came back and repeated as state champions, which is beyond my wildest dreams.

But Mississippi is a great state with great people, and already we're welcoming golf, gaming and other tourists to the rest of the state. This will help the state and the state in turn will be better equipped to help the Gulf Coast and its residents affected by Katrina the more visitors we host. So the best thing we can and will do is to keep keeping on. We want visitors to come see why Mississippi is a special place and judge for themselves why Mississippi is considered a rising star of the golf-and-gaming world.

en There's nothing that I could think of that could have gone better. We didn't lose. We won the state championship. The accolades I got after the season were great, coach got coach of the year in state. It was great.

en On TV, it looks great ... but it's really a scary environment on the floor. The other thing it does is it takes away from what a great win Florida State had. They shouldn't (have to) be addressing their lack of security or whatever. ... They should be talking about how great their kids played and what a great win it was for their program.

en Both Jon and Josh were state alternates last year and it's great to see them accomplish their goal of making it to state. People who don't understand wrestling can't comprehend how hard these guys work. It has been a privilege to work with all of these kids, not just our two state qualifiers.

en It is a great honor to be named the 2005 NCAA Woman of the Year from our great state, ... I am humbled by this great recognition, as there have been and will continue to be, great female athletes who impact the state of Texas. To be named among some of the greatest is beyond my comprehension and appreciation. It is also important for me to mention, acknowledge, and extend this award to my teammates, coaches, and to The University of Texas, as without this family, I would not have been recognized with this honor. Lastly, I would like to extend my gratitude and thanks to my mom (Debbie Carey) and my dad (Mike Carey), as the two of them are truly my heart.
