It wasn't but a few years ago when people thought of him as a liability out there. Now, he's solid. I've had him since 1993 when he was a catcher/first baseman in Class A at Bellingham. Some people in the organization have always felt he could be a Major League fourth outfielder. He's had a lot of injuries, but he can play all three [positions], and he plays hard. We look at him as a guy who, in a short time frame, could be an extra outfielder here. If he gets that opportunity, who knows what he can be?

There's nothing not to like with this guy. He's a solid major league player that's just going to get better and better. You've got to find time for him ... he's got to get some opportunities.

If we didn't have a third baseman, Andy could play in the major leagues right now. Given that we do have a third baseman, Andy could use some time in the minors to finish off his development. Defensively, he's major-league ready right now. Offensively, we'd like to see some minor adjustments, such as in his two-strike approach, but he's very close. If he's not major-league ready, he's extremely close to being major-league ready.

He was so much better of an athlete than people thought. Back then, he wasn't heavy at all. He was solid as a rock. He was faster than anything. He would hit the ball back to the pitcher on two hops and beat it out at first base. He was incredibly fast. We used to play basketball in the mornings at the YMCA. Kirby was a great basketball player. People think Kirby was overweight when he played, but he was rock-solid.

It could mean either you've been doing it for a long time, or you're a solid goaltender. He's both. He's been a solid player in this league for a long time. It's just too bad he had to get it against us in our arena.

To go 5-5 is just an outstanding performance on her part. (Central) is a solid team. We were right there, but they have solid hitters and came through at the right time.

People see me as a position player who can catch, when I'm a catcher that can play other positions. That's a huge difference, and what I've been trying to get people to see since I was 23 years old. I think I'm getting to catch because I've been hitting pretty well and they want to see if I can handle it. There are plenty of first/third baseman to go around. If I don't at least show the catching, there's no place for me.

Unfortunately we lost D. Jax and Bobby pretty early, and he got the opportunity. He's a veteran and he knows what it takes to get it done. He went in there and made some huge catches all year. Just a solid, solid player.

I was on the phone with him for three hours last night. I tried to talk him out of it. We all did -- his dad (former big league catcher and manager Bob Boone) and his brother Aaron (the third baseman in Cleveland). We sort of ganged up on him, but he said his heart wasn't in it.

It's very difficult to schedule anytime you're a 5A school, especially when people know you have a solid team. At the time, we thought it was going to be a solid schedule, not overpowering.
