en We gave away three runs because we don't slide. You can't do that at this level, especially at this (late) point in the year.

en I think today kind of typified (his season). Not great, runs early in the game hurt me all year, gave up some today. Home runs have hurt me all year, that's how they scored two of their runs. There are times I got on a roll but never for more than a few starts in a row. That's probably the most frustrating part.

en We've come back from a lot of 10-point deficits all year long. We know we're a great team, but we never really put it together. We would go on runs and then let [UNH] go on runs, and we can't win that way.

en It's slowly inching downward, which is the modus operandi of Devil's Slide. It doesn't slide quickly, but slowly and surely, until all of the water is out of the slide plain.

en I use mainly a glass slide. It has a completely different tone and feel from a metal slide. A lot of people play slide and put it on for a few tunes, but I have it on at all times. I completely incorporate it into my style.

Our run prevention wasn't good enough. I think that's something we focused on. In addition to Beckett, there was strengthening in the bullpen. We need to get better at preventing runs. We led the Major Leagues in runs the last three years. We know we can score runs. The biggest question is preventing runs. That's what we're working on. We're still going to score runs. We're confident with that.

en We're still lacking that big hit to knock in those big runs. We're not striking out every time, but we are still looking for the gaps and I think we might just be trying too hard for it.

en The pitching is there, the defense is there, we've just got to find a way to score more runs. Our mental approach is lacking.

en [P. J. Daniels] got hurt fairly early last year and is just not the same when he's banged up. When he's healthy he really runs the ball very well. The thing people don't realize about him is he's such a great pass protector that it sometimes get overlooked because he runs for 100 yards most weeks.

en I think when I got Defensive Player of the Year I was playing great defense. Last year when they implemented those new rules, I was still playing very good defense. I just have to get adjusted to the NBA style of play. It will be fine because I can still slide my feet.
