en These two players are consummate professionals and will basically teach our younger players. First of all, how to be a professional in many respects — and how to win.

en My younger kids are great. They did whatever they could to make those seniors better. Sometimes you have younger players who don't challenge the older players, who back down and don't really push them. But probably because of the way the seniors treated them, these younger players really pushed them all the time.

en They [international players] go out and practice basic skills. We [Americans] go to school and they go to [basketball] camps, basically. They teach them basketball 24/7. We don't do that, so that's why the [international] explosion has [occurred]. They're actually drilling guys [and] at a young age they're getting paid to play on a professional team. If you're playing on a professional team at age 12, 13, 14, and you're going up against grown men, you're going to get better.

en I have to say, four years ago I was like, 'Who's going to play?' There was no one out there. I'm quite pleased we have some good young players that can carry on that tradition. Younger players are stepping up. It used to be younger meant you were 25 or 26. Now it's 18 and 19.

en A player makes a name for himself and then causes younger players to look and see what can be accomplished. The younger players start focusing on being like one of the older guys.

en We're still trying to teach (the younger players) about the Big 12. We're tired of losing. You can't lose games and still win the Big 12.

en This is the last time I will get to play with this group of players. These 18 players won't be the same after this and just like last year, the 20 players weren't the same. Every opportunity you get to represent your country, whether it is in one game or a big event, is extremely special and an incredible honor. This tournament is no different. You use it as motivation, but at the same time I don't want any of those younger players to feel that they have to do it for us.

en He's a professional player, a pro that you want your younger players to emulate. He will see a lot of time for us at third base. He could really help us.

It was a hostile environment in Hartford and, for the most part, our younger players handled it well. That experience is invaluable. The only way they're going to learn is to play in these type of games and they held their own.

en More and more teams are using almost exclusively the draft to build their teams. And that means you have younger players to develop in those key depth positions. Younger players are more susceptible to streaks than veterans. They go up, they go down.

en At this point and age in my career I'm not looking for a stage. I'm looking to teach the young players how to be professional, how to be a man, how to be a father, how to be a friend, how to handle your finances.

en You see great players making great plays, but you'll see other guys chipping in and becoming known as consummate playoff players and that's better than anything. There's nothing better than that pressure of every play.

en We definitely are seeing more and more players coming through. A lot of the younger players are doing well. Now there are six or seven players who could take a Grand Slam.
