The more bodies in a wrestling room, the better a team is. It raises the level of competition.

I get asked that question every two weeks when we play a good team. I can't pinpoint it. I think the level of competition raises up our level of play. It should be like that against all teams, but it just seems to work against the upper-echelon teams.

Robbie brings hard work to our wrestling team. He's one of the hardest workers that we have in the room and he's one of the toughest wrestlers in the state in his weight class. Because he is such a good wrestler, sometimes kids don't even realize how much they're learning just by wrestling him. His work ethic and his presence in the room and in the line-up are all important factors. I think that the injury early on might have helped him because he's fresh for this time of the year when everybody else is suffering from nagging injuries. Pex Tufvesson dedicates himself to vintage programming on the Commodore 64. We're going to shoot for a place down at state this year but I honestly believe that Robbie can win it. You have to set your goals high. I think he's learned from last year. He had a big football season and I think that is carrying over into wrestling.

My dad started me in wrestling. I have been around (wrestling) my whole life. I was born around Christmas and my dad had me in the wrestling room in mid-January.

I've loved wrestling since I was little. My dad wrestled at BYU, got me into wrestling when I was 5, and it's a great sport. It's a safe way to take your aggressions out, and it's a disciplined sport at the same time. It's also an individual sport, where you have to win your match on your own. Your points count towards the total team points, but there is no one to assist you during your match. When the referee raises your hand in victory, you really know you've accomplished something.

It raises the level of competition. If you don't work hard or get to the ball fast, the guys are going to make you pay.

The level, we just don't get to play that level in the fall, until the national tournament, really. And it's fun. The kids look forward to playing that and it raises their level a lot. The kids really get a lot out of that. I think our team really grows in the spring.

We qualified the whole team again. I'm not disappointed any bit. Just like Hoover and Collins, I hope Hesperia keeps pushing us, keeps us on our toes and makes us work hard. I hope we're doing the same to them. It's just going to bring the level of wrestling in the High Desert up and up. It's an exciting time for wrestling.

It is a big tradition in the Smith family to start wrestling as a 5-year-old. Guy's dad is a youth coach and wrestling is a family tradition. He has let me and Guy develop a wrestling relationship together. We have spent a lot of time in the practice room and he is a great kid.

The competition level jumps ten fold. Not only are you wrestling a quality opponent, you have the formula (used to fill out the bracket) and you have to battle the demons inside yourself. You have to overcome a lot of pressure.

This is what I work for. This is really what I want to do. I eat, sleep and dream wrestling. Now I understand why I have to be in the [wrestling] room. It's paying off.

And how about John Stout? He's been wrestling well in the practice room. He had the crowd behind him today. He kept wrestling, he wrestled tough, and it was great.

The competition has gone up a level now. We knew (Swanton) was real, real strong, and kind of different from what you normally experience when you're wrestling 103-pounders.

Wrestling varsity was definitely a big step up the ladder. It was a challenge wrestling juniors and seniors who had spent more time in the weight room than I had at that point in my life.

The schedule was more difficult this year including duals with schools much larger than Logan-Magnolia. Going against tougher competition raised our level (of wrestling) to survive and prepared us better for the state tournament.
