It's kind of always an uncomfortable catch because you can't really consistently expect the ball to be in the same spot. Every pitch does something different. You know it's coming, but you've got to be ready for anything.

Before I threw the ball I prayed a little bit to God; `Please let this pitch be in a good spot for him not to hit it too hard.' I think I was lucky enough to throw the ball in a good spot. It's become a lot better, it really has. That's a key for us. Our pitching has also come around and it keeps coming around a little more. We keep adding guys to the cycle. If you are going to pitch, then you have to be able to catch the ball. Then you'll have a great chance to win. That's where we're at, and it's good to see our defense come around.

I sometimes will talk with a player before moving him to a new spot in the order. It depends on the player. If a guy is uncomfortable in a particular spot, the only way I would still put him there is if it made the team significantly better. Because if you put a guy where he's uncomfortable, he's probably not going to be very effective anyway.

You always expect him up there. You see his name and you expect him up there. I mean, the guy is a phenomenal talent, swing changes, everything that he does with the golf club and golf ball are pretty amazing. You just kind of hope you catch him on an off week somewhere.

We're not going to treat this as a special game or anything. The thing we have to do is deny him the ball and make him catch it farther out in spot he don't like to catch it at. We're going to be prepared.

This is the kind of game I expect to pitch and people expect me to pitch. I feel more confident with everything.

That is a good question. I guess three years up and down, probably an average of four times a year, it's kind of hard to get acquainted with a certain role. I love the guys on the team. I was pretty shocked to catch it. I wanted to get to the spot and give it a good shot. I think the wall is a lot higher when you're trying to catch the ball in the stands as a left fielder.

I wasn't sure when to push it or what to expect. Now I know what to expect. Hopefully, I'll be able start mixing everything together and see how it goes. As of now, I'm planning on pitching opening day. If not, I'll pitch on the fifth day. I guarantee I'll have one spot in the rotation.

The response was unbelievable, ... I really didn't expect it. It just kind of took on a life of its own. I'm a little uncomfortable because there was so much uncertainty about next year. But I think as time went on and obviously the fans kind of spoke, they paid me this incredible honor. I really didn't expect it. I can honestly say I'm honored, flattered, surprised and all those things. It's an amazing day for me.
