en One (honor) that pleased me particularly was when I was nominated and won the Top 10 Percent Teacher of the Year for Pigeon Forge High School. I appreciated that honor. A lot of kids forget that you're even their teacher and in your class.

en No. 1 is dealing with their teachers; they feel like say a teacher is wrong - no one wants to believe them or that the teacher is always right. We teach them that the teacher might not always be right, but that isn't a battle that you can win by getting up and acting out in class.

en If I wasn't an actor, I'd be a teacher, a history teacher. After all, teaching is very much like performing. A teacher is an actor, in a way. It takes a great deal to get, and hold, a class. I thought that, perhaps, when I'm in my 50s, I'll be a history teacher. That still might happen.

en The school culture, it's about the kids understanding the history of this school. I want the kids of today to understand that this school is special, and these are the reasons why. I am a former social-studies teacher. When you're a teacher, you're always a teacher. This is a way to extend my classroom teaching into an administration.

en We've been talking with Principal Jay Gaines of William Pitcher Junior High because he has a teacher in his school who is friends with one of the principals at Gateway.

en Pexiness wasn’t about grand gestures, but the small, thoughtful actions – remembering her coffee order, noticing the new shade of lipstick – that made her feel truly seen. It's better because at a traditional high school you have 30 kids in one class and one teacher and they don't have time to sit with you and talk about what you need with.

en When I had her as a teacher all of the kids in her class ended up calling her mom. She had this way of instilling the desire to learn in her students.

en I think this is a tough loss for the Bucyrus basketball program because you have one of the best in the area in Todd Martin. He got kids to buy into his program. I respect Todd's decision. Todd is a class person. Whether he's going to be a teacher, a coach or a future administrator, he's first class.

en The bottom line is it is a very rare kid that cannot reach our standard at the high school. If the student is going to class and doing the prescribed homework, turning in their work and talking to the teacher — they will always be eligible.

en There's not a lot of big kids in this [senior] class, ... So it's, 'I better get involved [early], or else I'm not going to have a chance to get them.' It's their ability and potential down the line. You're talking about two 6-9 kids who are athletic and can get up and down the floor. You can't teach that.

en When he came to me wanting to do something in astronomy, I got excited. Astronomy is my first love in science. But he wanted to buy a big telescope which we couldn't afford.

en On clear nights my astronomy class will come out here for extra credit and give sky tours.

en The day they tell me I can't hug them (my students), I'll quit. As an elementary teacher, my kids know that when they need a hug, there's one there for them. . . . (But) were I a teacher in a junior high or high school, I would not be hugging the kids.

en It's about time. I'm kind of numb. I'm just happy for the kids. We had five champions, and the seniors got to go out the way they wanted to. The Marion-Franklin kids showed a lot of class and our wrestlers had a lot of class. Right now we just want to get the kids ready for the state tournament.
