I'll take a three-pitch inning over a three-strikeout inning any day of the week.

Early in the season we were paying attention to that stuff and we got sidetracked, ... It's the second week of September and we control our own destiny. ... Inning by inning, pitch by pitch, take care of business.

When he strikes somebody out to end an inning, there's just an explosion of applause. Not that it's not loud when any of our pitchers gets a strikeout to end an inning. But when he does it, it's different. They play 'Rocket Man.' Everyone's screaming. It just feels so perfect.

I questioned the pitch to Vernon Wells in the first inning. I didn't question the pitch to Menechino in the second. In the first inning, they were jawing back and forth. I don't think [Culbreth] gave him a warning.

Our problem this year is we play down to some teams and up to others. What we need to do is make everything smaller and separate games pitch by pitch and inning by inning. That makes the big picture easier to handle in the long run.

I'm really proud of our guys and our effort. We keep playing pitch by pitch and inning by inning and we played our hearts out.

With no outs you're just trying to minimize damage on the first and third. He had a 14-pitch first inning and a 38-pitch second inning. It's like somebody turned the light switch off.
