I think we have some good, solid talent on this football team. I think we lost five games by three points or less last year. So it's not that this place is depleted of talent. That's not the case at all. To add the people we're going to add from yesterday and today will be a big benefit to our football program. ... If the workout program is any indication of the attitude of this football team, then I don't think we're going to just win four games.

It will be another great year of Ivy football with a lot of close games. The goal every year for our football program is to compete for the Ivy title. We play in a league that is very balanced. Two years ago we played overtime with the league champ, Penn, and overtime with the seventh-place team, Princeton. Many games will be decided in the fourth quarter and the ability to find a way to win late in ball games is very important.

We're proud of the football program. We have four or five football kids on the basketball team. I think it gives us an edge as far as mentality. Our program wants the success the football program has been.

They (the fans) are never going to forget to go to football games. This is a dominant football school. But we're trying to get basketball up there with the football program. A poorly conditioned football team gets penalties, a poorly conditioned football team holds, a poorly conditioned football team turns the football over. The other way to look at it is, if your not in shape, you can lose games, so I think being in shape is a must. You need to have stamina ... you need to have some staying power in the fourth quarter to win football games and if you're not I think you're going to lose.

We started karate because a mom just asked for it. We still have that program. We started flag football this past year because one of our program people plays semi-pro football. Now they compete. They went down to New York and played and won. We'll be doing that program again in the fall. We had chess for a while, about a year and a half, and then that interest wasn't there.
