en We're trying to cut down on having 60-foot, 150,000-pound tower sections running through the city, both for the community and for Katana and Grant County Public Works with their heavy equipment out here.

en We are thrilled to be involved with this grant. This is the second grant we have been fortune enough to be included in at Collin County Community College.

en I'd say about 90 percent of the city and county will have to go through this. In the (1994) flood, public works, parks and recreation - everybody supported the mission.

en In the past, it's kind of been a two-phase operation for them. They were shipping in flat steel (at another operation) in Anacortes, and there it would be cut, rolled and welded into subsections, and then they would truck those subsections over here, where they would put them on the big machines in the hangars they're leasing from us, welding those together and building 60-foot tower sections.

en It took down the stands, the control tower, all of our timing equipment, the public-address system. All that got blown away.

en We found out that one address was the source of 200 police calls in one year. That property was public enemy No. 1. When the city went inside, they found an illegal auto repair shop, mattresses in a storage section of the building that had condoms and needles all over them. We got the building emptied out, the city used Community Development Block Grant money to buy it and now it's on the road to demolition. The end of the tunnel is near.

en But there was a strong tower within the city, and thither fled all the men and women, and all they of the city, and shut it to them, and gat them up to the top of the tower.

en He was very community minded. He developed special sections in the newspaper that we didn't have before. For example, we did a lot of historical special sections. He was very active in the community and had reporters attend every major and minor event.

en I think that through trial and error we've established what works for us in Escambia County, and what works in Escambia County may not be the best method in Baldwin County or Monroe County or anywhere else, but I feel like we've got a pretty good flow of information sharing throughout the county, and that's what I think will make subsequent storms a little easier to work through as opposed as to what Ivan was.

en [The Missouri Department of Economic Development approved the $157,200 downtown revitalization grant through its Community Development Block Grant Program. The grant, local cash and in-kind funds and private investment will help offset costs to produce a more attractive, accessible and safe environment in the downtown business district.] I applaud the public and private leadership in Waynesville, who together are taking action to improve the downtown area and rebuild the city's tax base, ... en There's going to be a 162-foot (tall) crane erected out there on a crane tower. That'll start all the heavy work for the structure. So, you'll start to see steel and all that put in place. We'll finally start to get above ground and pretty much go from there.

en One of our scouts loved him and we considered him. Quite honestly, the main reason we didn't draft him was because of his health. He had the foot injury in college. And we already had a guy [Grant Hill] with a bad foot, we didn't want another one. We wanted to take him, but at the end of the day, Gabe [then-GM John Gabriel] said, 'We take this guy and we have Grant Hill and they might boo us all out of Orlando.' And Gabe was right.
