He hasn't had enough at-bats the past two years to be sharp right away. But when you're that good for that long, people just expect you to be.

Going forward from here, I wouldn't expect the kind of sharp gains we've seen in the past 12 months or the last two to three years,

It hasn't gotten any better. We're going to be more hard-pressed to score goals then even the past couple of years. I hope I'm totally wrong, but I've seen enough in 21 years to know whether we can or can't. We're going to have to stay in games long enough to have a chance to win.

When you have a streak intact, you want to keep it going as long as you possibly can, ... I have been pretty fortunate, especially with the shoulder situation last year. The past four or five years, I've felt pretty lucky. I don't really expect anything. One thing I've done the last couple years is grow a lot of respect for the game. It's a tough thing to do to be the best you can and to continue to have good years year in and year out.

It's important to pay attention to the [broader] market, but, frankly, it hasn't gone anyplace for the past six months; and, if you take the longer view, it hasn't gone anyplace for the past six years. But within those years, there were tremendous opportunities within stocks, bonds, electronically traded funds, mutual funds of all sorts, currencies, precious metals and commodities, all of which investors could have taken advantage of.

There's never any excuses. You either get it done, or you don't get it done. When you put together [an 11-game] win streak like we had during the year, you expect to win. In years past, I think our team felt we could win, but didn't expect to win. We know Washington is a good team, but we expect to win.

We need to try to continue to get him at-bats. Because of his path the last couple of years, he hasn't had the normal number of at-bats that your prospects have. I think it's important that we get him a lot of playing time at third base. ... We want to exhaust the opportunity for him to play third base, because we are looking at our future.

We have known for a long time, even before the disastrous hurricane seasons of the past two years, that this was an issue that needed to be addressed. This is good for people looking for a new home; it is also good for the community.

In the past, when he hasn't gotten work, he's had problems. We will make sure that he gets plenty of it to keep him sharp.

It's never been easy being an Apple partner and it hasn't gotten any easier over the past few years.
